The aim of the Orthodox monks is the attainment of the so-called Holy Spirit. They live in a constant attempt to approach God. By continuous prayers and liturgies, by constant repetition of sacred formulas the human mind should reach another level of consciousness that allows the perfect union with God. This condition is called "entrancement" and corresponds to "Nirvana" in Buddhism or "Moksha" in Hinduism. The magnificent landscape of Meteora makeks it probably easier to approach the state of grace.
Ziel der orthodoxen Mönche ist die Erlangung des sogenannten Heiligen Geistes. Sie leben in stetigem Bestreben, Gott näher zu kommen. Durch ständige Liturgien und Gebete, durch andauernde Wiederholungen heiliger Formeln soll der menschliche Geist in eine andere Bewusstseinsstufe gelangen, die die vollkommene Einswerdung mit Gott ermöglicht. Dieser Zustand wird „Verzückung“ genannt und entspricht dem Nirwana im Buddhismus oder dem Moksha im Hinduismus. Die grandiose Landschaft Meteoras macht es wohl noch leichter, sich dem Zustand der Verzückung anzunähern.
