Keltische Kunst auf höchstem Niveau erlebt man einige Kilometer weiter. Die ab dem 6. Jahrhundert errichtete Klosteranlage von Clonmacnoise Clonmacnoise, Ireland gilt gleichsam als die theologische Universität der Kelten. Aus ganz Europa strömten Mönche hierher und trugen Irland den Ruf ein, 'das Land der Heiligen und Gelehrten' zu sein. 13 Kirchen und 106 Wohnhäuser, darunter viele Pilgerherbergen, hatte das katholische Clonmacnoise zu bieten, bevor die Anlage 1552 den englisch-protestantischen Truppen zum Opfer fiel.
Celtic art at the highest stage can be found a few kilometers further. The monastery of Clonmacnoise Clonmacnoise, Ireland , built in the 6th century, is regarded as the theological seminary of the Celts. Monks from all over Europe flocked here, earning Ireland the reputation of being 'the land of saints and scholars'. The Catholic Clonmacnoise had 13 churches and 106 residential houses, including many pilgrims' hostels, before the complex fell victim to the Anglo-Protestant troops in 1552.
