Maier, Fritz Franz#
b. Znojmo, Czech Republic (then Znaim), July 19, 1844, d. Vienna, Dec. 15, 1926, ship designer. Studied in Vienna, worked in shipyards in Trieste, Budapest, the USA, England and Scotland. 1898 to 1905 he developed a hull shape with particularly favourable hydrodynamic properties ("M.-hull"). His sons Erich and Werner M. continued his research and development work in Bremen in 1927. In 1931 a company for the exploitation of his invention was founded in New York.
