Rundfunkvolksbegehren#
Rundfunkvolksbegehren (Radio Initiative): The first Popular Initiative held in the Second Republic of Austria was initiated in 1964 by Austria's independent newspapers and several magazines by means of canvassing signatures. From October, 5-12, 1964, 832,353 Austrians signed the popular initiative concerning a "revision of the federal law governing the establishment, function and responsibilities of the Oesterreichischer Rundfunk Ges. m. b. H.´". Using the radio initiative as a basis, the Austrian government passed the Broadcasting Act in 1966 and created the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) in 1967.
