Umhausen#
Umhausen, Tyrol, municipality in the district of Imst, alt. 1,031 m, pop. 2,506, area 137.38 km2, bi-seasonal tourist resort (224,014 overnight stays in 1992) on the Eastern side of the Oetz Valley, with the hilltop settlement of Farst (1482). - Leiersbach power station. - First documented mention in 1288; Gothic parish church (alterations in 1482 and in the 17th century), Nepomuk chapel added in 1771, wall paintings (around 1330), neo-Gothic high altar (1882), mortuary chapel with Gothic carved figure (14th century); in Oesten, Baroque pilgrimage church of Maria Schnee (1797); in Tumpen, parish church (1764/65); several Baroque chapels (in Niederthei, Koefels, Farst, etc.); inn with façade paintings and wood panelling (1684). Nearby, Stuibenfall waterfall (150 m). "Laerchbaumziehen" custom.
