In 2001, the starting pistol was fired for this project, which is liked to be referred to as the '8th Wonder of the World'. As a wall, 2 m high and half a meter wide, the construction material for the artificial island (about 100 million cubic meters of sand and rock), would suffice for thrice the length of the circumference of the earth. The result is a palm of 6 km in diameter, which extends the shoreline of Dubai by 100 kilometres and with that more than doubles it. Up to 40,000 labourers worked simultaneously on the completion of the mega project.
Im Jahr 2001 erfolgte der Startschuss für das gerne als „8. Weltwunder“ bezeichnete Projekt. Das Baumaterial für die Inselaufschüttung, etwa 100 Mio. m³ Sand und Fels, würde als 2 m hohe und einen halben Meter breite Mauer dreimal um die Erde reichen. Entstanden ist eine Palme mit 6 km Durchmesser, die die Uferlinie Dubais um 100 km verlängert und damit mehr als verdoppelt. Bis zu 40.000 Arbeiter werkten gleichzeitig an der Fertigstellung des Megaprojektes.
