Impressions of Apulia#

The set of pictures shown in what follows is trying to add some more unusual sights to the full and excellent presentation of Apulia by G. Huber. Pictures have been mainly compiled by the Austria-Forum friend "Horizonte", some are by Hermann Maurer. The first part shows some pictures from Trani, then from wine-tasting near Trani, presents many pictures of local flowers, plants and fruits that can be found all over Apulia. It is followed by some highlights of Barletta North of Trani and of Bari, the provincial capital.

The second part shows Otranto, known because of its fortified harbour, and above all because of its cathedral: Some 2000 m2 of floors are maid of mosaics, parts sometimes a bit hidden by rows of benches. After this, some impressions of places North of Oranto are shown: The city of stone-houses Trulli, Alberobello, followed by photos of the "white city" Ostumi, with olive-farms nearby. Then Lecce, district capital, is touched upon. Lecce has a nubmer of famous churches, not just the Cathedral. Very unusual, there is the excavation of a large Roman stadium right in the city center. Since the architecture of Lecce is covered well if you follow the links provided, a report on a speciallity of Lecce is incoporated, some pictures of the large coffee roasting facility Quarta. From the SE point of Apulia, Leuca, there are some photos including some of the cliffs dropping into the sea, as seen from a boat.
