Episode 70: Krah#
(Andrea Habeler)#
Krähen sind außergewöhnlich kluge Tiere mit einer ganzen Reihe von Fähigkeiten, die wir eben noch bloß Menschen zugetraut haben: „Crows are some of the smartest creatures in the animal kingdom. They are capable of making rule-guided decisions and of creating and using tools. They also appear to show an innate sense of what numbers are. Researchers now report that these clever birds are able to understand recursion—the process of embedding structures in other, similar structures—which was long thought to be a uniquely human ability.“ (Scientific American)
„Loma Pendergraft, a corvid expert at the University of Washington: ‚These are all really intelligent animal groups that also live in really complicated societies, where individuals have relationships to one another.‘ And those relationships can get very complicated. Figuring out who you can trust and who you can’t, who’ll be on your side if you get into a conflict, and what another member of the group is up to are all necessary skills for advanced social living, and those skills take big brains.“ (Discover Magazine)
