Lammergeyer#

These bearded vultures are undertakers,
or up-takers, our bones in their beaks
and by their wings, up to the skies.
Nothing ist permanent
the body least of all.
We drag our bodies around holy places
but no pilgrimage will prevent
the lammergeyer getting our flesh and bones.
Clumsy on earth, they are angels of the updraft
and know no mountain truly reaches sky.
We rest after our long climb,
on our backs. Quietly enough
these vutures gather,
but we soon stand and stretch.
The lammergeyers, seeing we’re neither dead nor dinner
use the wings we do not have.
