Inzing#
Inzing, Tirol, municipality in the district of Innsbruck-Land, alt. 616 m, pop. 3,526, area 26.43 km2, in the Upper Inn Valley, west of Innsbruck. - Electric power station, 2 natural toboggan runs (venue of the World Championship races of 1979); production sector (industrial area): wood processing, electro-mechanical industry, embossing works (production of trophies), production of snow groomers, waste recycling, transport firms and tourism (45,157 overnight stays, mainly in summer). - First documented mention in 1034; parish and pilgrimage churches (1777-1779) with late Baroque frescoes and high altar; late Gothic parish church (first documented mention in 1359) in Hatting with frescoes in the choir (around 1500) and Baroque ceiling medallions, old farmsteads with carved gables. Famous as a Christmas crib village, with about 35 large cribs (some of them dating from the 19th century). Passion plays until 1927.
