Neustift im Stubaital, Tirol, municipality in the district of Innsbruck-Land, alt. 993 m, pop. 3,791 (1981: 3,307) area 249.00 km2, bi-seasonal tourism (1,007,163 overnight stays) in the central Subaital valley at the foot of the Kalkkoegel mountains. - Recreation centre, longest natural tobogganing slope in Austria (8 km), Stubai valley glacier ropeways: Dresdner Huette refuge (alt. 2,308 m), Stubaier Wildspitze peak (alt. 3,341 m), Bildstoeckl and Eisjoch mountains (alt. 3,128 m); large summer skiing area at the Daunkogel and Schaufelferner glaciers. Early centre of alpinism. Very large Baroque parish church (1768-1774) constructed by F. de Paula Penz, ceiling fresco (1772) by J. A. Zoller, high altar and 2 side altars combined in one wall, altar pieces by C. Henrici (around 1773-1775), pulpit with elaborate Rococo decoration; Soldier´s Memorial Chapel (1922) by C. Holzmeister.
