Pflug#
Plough, device for the cultivation of the soil, in use since the Neolithic period, pictorial representations (in manuscripts or on stove tiles) since the Middle Ages. A plough from the 18th century, which was used by Joseph II in 1769 at Slavikovice (CZ), is exhibited in the museum of Brno in its original state. Different types of ploughs were developed in different regions in Austria. An essential improvement was achieved by S. Zugmayr, who constructed a plough with iron shares around 1830 which was made for teams of oxen or horses and which turned the furrow. It was widely used (models in the Vienna Museum of Technology) until the introduction of the tractor (in the middle of the 20th century).
