Hieflau#
Hieflau, Styria, municipality in the district of Leoben, alt. 503 m, pop. 1,162, area 46.96 km2, at the eastern end of the Gesaeuse valley at the entry of the Erzbach stream into the River Enns, in immediate vicinity, Tamischbachturm mountain (2,035 m). Hieflau is located in the "Ennstaler und Eisenerzer Alpen" landscape conservation area (created 1981). - Children´s home of the Kinderfreunde association, Hieflau power station on the River Enns (with Erzbach turbine, built 1955, 63.2 MW) and Landl power stations (built 1967, 23 MW) to the north. Important iron-working industry until the end of the 19th century; in the 16th century, construction of a wooden rake over the River Enns by H. Gasteiger; parish church (rebuilt 1747); former residence of hammer mill owner (around 1600) in Lainbach; museum of the former rake and steelworks accountancy and administration authority.
