Kavalierstour#
Grand Tour, educational journey undertaken by young noblemen. From the middle of the 16th century, the grand tour became an accepted part of the education of noblemen, so that they could become acquainted with foreign countries, languages, and customs, get to know the world and human nature, and develop their powers of judgement and urbanity of manner. Austrian noblemen mainly travelled to Italy, but also to the western European countries, which considerably stimulated the aristocratic culture of the Baroque period. Because it was so costly, the grand tour generally went out of fashion in the 18th century.
