Kirchberg am Wechsel, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Neunkirchen, alt. 581 m, pop. 2,394, area 51.18 km2, summer resort (54,714 overnight stays) situated in the Feistritz Valley at the foot of the Wechsel hills. - Forestry office of the Archdiocese of Vienna, monastery of the Sacerdotes a Corde Jesu, secondary school of the Archdiocese of Vienna in Sachsenbrunn. In 1991 about 78 % of the 683 gainfully employed people were working in the service sector, especially social and public services; Kirchberg has a large DIY store, restaurants and guesthouses, sawmills and fruit processing facilities. - Late Baroque parish church (1754/1755) with Baroque stucco-work and fine Rococo interior, high altar (1755); former convent of Augustinian nuns (founded before 1236, dissolved in 1782), four-cornered structure built in 1657, altered in1703; column of the Virgin Mary (1713); late Gothic, formerly fortified church in St. Wolfgang (around 1420), restored between 1860 and 1862, rebuilt between 1925 and 1928 being struck by lightning, fine west portal, paintings by M. J. Schmidt (1794) and J. Spillenberger (1672), fresco of St. Christopher by J. Prunner (from the mid-15th century); information and documentary centre dealing with L. Wittgenstein, to the northwest of Kirchberg is the Hermannshoehle, a cave with stalactite formations.
