Lauda, Hans#
b. Vienna, March 25, 1896, d. Vienna, Jan. 21, 1974, industrialist; brother of Ernst Lauda, grandfather of Nikolaus (Niki) Lauda. 1923 commercial secretary at the magnesite works Veitscher Magnesitwerke AG; 1925 changed to the Oe.-Amerikanische Magnesit AG (Austro-American magnesite company), and became its commercial manager. 1937 Director-General of the Veitscher Magnesitwerke AG. Suspended from his position by the Nazis, reappointed 1945. Founded the Federation of Austrian Industry (Vereinigung Oesterreichischer Industrieller, now Vereinigung der Oesterreichischen Industrie) and was its first President (until 1960, then Honorary President). Highly acclaimed for his commitment to Austrian economic recovery after 1945 and the maintenance of social peace. 1956-1974 President of the Austrian Red Cross.
