Opponitz, Lower Austria, municipality in the district of Amstetten, alt. 422 m, pop.1 ,031, area 39.68 km2, located where the Opponitzbach stream flows into the River Ybbs. Opponitz hydroelectric power station belonging to the Vienna Public Enterprises (built in 1924, 60 million kWh.), sickle and fork production plant. - Parish church (1852-1854) with Baroque altars and altarpieces by M. J. Schmidt; "Hammer am Bach" sickle museum on the Eisenstrasse ("Iron Road").
