Sölden#
Soelden, Tirol, municipality in the district of Imst, alt. 1,368 m, population 2,738, area 466.88 km2, winter sports resort (2.022.907 overnight stays) situated in the Upper Oetztal Valley, including the towns Obergurgl and Untergurgl, Soelden, Hochsoelden, Vent and Zwieselstein, the largest district in Austria; summer skiing areas on Rettenbach Glacier and Tiefenbach Glacier, connected by a road tunnel to form a vast skiing region. - Customs and border station, Freizeitarena Soelden (sports centre and multi-purpose hall), Gaislach sledge run, cable railway to Gaislacher Kogel Mountain (alt. 3,056 m) and to Giggijoch Pass (alt. 2,520 m), numerous chair-lifts and mountain refuges. Late Gothic parish church in Rettenbach (documented mention in 1288, altered in 1521) with ceiling paintings and murals, Baroque decorations; ornate iron crosses in the cemetery; parish church in Vent (1862) with Baroque altar from Schnals.
