Tetmajer, Ludwig von#
b. Krompach (now Krompachy, Slovakia), July 14, 1850 d. Vienna, Jan. 31, 1905, engineer, pioneer of materials testing. Studied civil and structural engineering at the Zurich Polytechnic Institute from 1868 to 1872, and established an internationally renowned materials testing institute there in 1880; founded the International Association for Materials Testing in 1895. Appointed Professor of Technological Mechanics and Building Materials at Vienna University of Technology in 1901, expanded the Technical Research Institute; focused in particular on stability problems in the case of buckling (Tetmajer formula).
