Lebert, Hans#
Lebert, Hans, b. Vienna, Jan. 9, 1919, d. Baden (Lower Austria), Aug. 20, 1993, narrative writer, lyric poet and opera singer (esp. R. Wagner operas); in World War II accused of "demoralizing the troops", cooperated with the Austrian resistance. Published first poems in the magazine "Plan" (1946). At the beginning of the 1990s his novels "Die Wolfshaut" (1960) and "Der Feuerkreis" (1971) were rediscovered. They deal with the consequences of National Socialism in rural parts of Austria, the hushing up and falsification of repression of Austria´s role in the Nazi era as well as the refusal to come to terms with this episode in Austria´s history. Austrian State Prize (1962), Grillparzer Prize (1992).
