Pleyel, Ignaz#
b. Ruppersthal (municipality of Grossweikersdorf, Lower Austria), June 1, 1757, d. Paris (France), Nov. 14, 1831, composer, publisher, piano maker. Student of J. Haydn; from around 1784 lived in France (in London during the French Revolution), around 1795 founded in Paris a music publishing house and 1807 a piano factory (today belongs to Schimmel). His descendants also played an important role in the musical life of Paris ("Salle Pleyel"). Ignaz Pleyel museum in Ruppersthal.
