Surprisingly, areas near Anchorage and Fairbanks grow very large vegetables.
This is due to the very mineral rich loam and the fact that the sun shines almost continuously for 6 months. This allows to grow cabbage up to 45 kilos (2005 record), carrots of 15 kilos and watermelons of 160 kilos !
