Natural Bridge, a geological formation in Rockbridge County, Virginia, was formed by a small tributary of the James River which carved out a gorge in the mountainous limestone terrain. This natural arch, about 65 m high and consisting of horizontal limestone strata, is the leftover of a cave or a tunnel through which the creek once flowed.
The formation was a sacred site of the Native American Monacan tribe. Today it is designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark and can be visited by tourists.
