Hutterstrasser, Carl Pseudonym Charles Vernay#
Hutterstrasser, Carl (pseudonym: Charles Vernay), b. Vienna, June 1, 1863, d. Vienna, March 29, 1942, piano maker and composer. Originally a banker, took over and continued the piano factory L. Boesendorfer in 1909. After the Boesendorfer-Saal in Palais Lichtenstein had been pulled down, the sales rooms were transferred to the building of the Musikverein (1913). After the First World War the company managed to gain its worldwide reputation. In 1931 it became a general partnership (OHG) and has been a joint stock company under US ownership since 1966. He was also a pianist, cellist and composer (choral works for men's choirs and vocal quartets) and one of the first racing cyclists and skiers in Austria.
