Karl, Alexander#
b. Grund (municipality of Wullersdorf, (Lower Austria), March 19, 1824, d. Melk (Lower Austria), Feb. 1, 1909, 1875-1909 abbot of the Benedictine Monastery of Melk, 1878-1908 member of the Landtag of Lower Austria, from 1876 member of the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat. One of the big landowners loyal to the constitution, opponent of the Benedictine reform movement and of the Christian Socialists; K. was a competent agriculturist, reorganised the Abbey Seminary and grammar school.
