Maria Trost#
Maria Trost, Styria, alt. 469 m, a parish and pilgrimage church, as well as a Franciscan monastery situated on Purberg Hill above the town of Graz; part of the 11th district of Graz, chapel was recognized as an official place of pilgrimage in 1711. According to designs by A. Stengg a Baroque pilaster church with a crossing dome and a twin-towered façade was erected between 1714 and 1724; encircled by monastery walls (Pauline monastery from 1708-1786, since then Franciscan monastery); frescoes by L. v. Schram, F. Naher and J. B. Scheith; miraculous representation of the Virgin (around 1460) originally created in Gothic style, later on redesigned in Baroque style; Late Baroque interior.
