Pernegg an der Mur, Styria, municipality in the district of Bruck an der Mur, alt. 458 m, pop. 2,586 (1981: pop. 2,935), area 86.04 km2, commuter area (to Bruck an der Mur, Kapfenberg) at the break through of the Mur river south of Bruck an der Mur. - Pernegg an der Mur steam-power station (built in 1958, 100 MW) and run-of-river power station (built in 1927, 18 MW) in Kirchdorf; day tourism, businesses. - Pilgrimage church of St. Mary (built between 1448-1461, interior redecorated in Baroque style 1774-1775) with mural paintings by J. A. Moelk, column high altar (1740) with late Gothic miracle-working statue (around 1510) and impressive marble tombstone with life-sized sculptures (1590); palace (1578-1582) with Rococo stucco ceilings, court with pier arcades; castle ruin in Kirchdorf on the west bank of the Mur river (documented mention in 1143) and parish church with frescoes (1482), of late Baroque design and with objects by R. Kriesche (1993). Pernegg an der Mur also comprises the town of Mixnitz with the Baerenschuetzklamm Gorge and the Drachenhoehle (Dragon's Cave).
