Schenk, Otto#
Schenk, Otto, b. Vienna, June 12, 1930, Kammerschauspieler, director, theatre manager. First engagements at cellar theatres, 1952 at the Volkstheater and at the Theater am Parkring; 1955 actor and director at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna; then in Duesseldorf, 1963 manager of the Theater am Gaertnerplatz in Munich, 1965 resident director at the Vienna State Opera (1980 first non-musician honorary member). Productions at all the big opera houses in the world (e.g. Metropolitan Opera, New York). Often worked as an actor and director at the Vienna Burgtheater, at the Salzburg Festival and above all at the Theater in der Josefstadt where he was manager 1988-1997 (with R. Jungbluth); worked in radio; readings. 1991 awarded the Nestroy Ring.
