Wiener Werkel#
Wiener Werkel, only Viennese Kabarett which performed during the era of National Socialism. A. Mueller-Reizner was the founder and manager, and staged the performances in the what used to be the Moulin Rouge. All ten shows were box-office successes because they managed to criticise the National Socialist regime in spite of restrictions imposed by the National Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. The texts were written by R. Weys, F. Paul and F. Eckhardt ("Sebastians Hoellenfahrt"), who was forced into the underground. After the death of Mueller-Reizner (1942), his wife C. Renz took over the management of the cabaret. The Wiener Werkel ceased to exist as a result of the general closure of all theatres in 1944.
