Florida 28.1,-81.6 , also known as "the Sunshine State", is a United States state located in the southeastern region. It is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the west, by Alabama to the north and by the straits of Florida and Cuba to the south. It covers an area of 65,755 sq mi (170,304 sq km) and has an estimated population of 20,271,272 (2015). Florida has the longest coastline (1,350 mi / 2,170 km) in the contiguous United States. The climate varies from, subtropical to tropical. The state's economy relies heavily on tourism, agriculture and transportation, but the state is also known for amusement parks and is a popular destination for retirees.
