Dallinger, Alfred#
b. Vienna, Nov. 7, 1926, d. Lake Constance Feb. 23, 1989 (airplane crash), druggist and politician (Austrian Social Democratic Party, SPOe). 1974-1989 chairman and managing director of the Union of Employees in the Private Sector, 1974-1983 member of the Nationalrat, 1980-1989 Minister of Social Affairs. Attempted to solve the economic crisis of the 1980s by means of vigorous labour policies; advocate of across-the-board shortening of the working week (to 35 hours); considered a prominent figure for social affairs in the Austrian Social Democratic Party.
