Der Stadtheilige Oronzo hatte 1650 angeblich die Pestepidemie in Lecce gestoppt, freilich erst, nachdem bereits die Hälfte der Bevölkerung dem Schwarzen Tod erlegen war.
The city's patron saint Oronzo had - allegedly - stopped the plague epidemic in Lecce in 1650, although only after half of the population had succumbed to the Black Death.
