Hardly 20 km further to the east, Amathous was the centre of another important city-state. From the Nymphaeum, the central well, water conduits consisting of of stone pipes led into the individual districts. The fact that there is hardly anything to be seen today in Amathous is due to the construction of the Suez Canal, for which all the big stones of the ancient city were shipped to Egypt.
Kaum 20 km weiter östlich bildete Amathous das Zentrum eines weiteren bedeutenden Stadtkönigtums. Vom Nymphäum, dem zentralen Brunnen, führten Wasserleitungen aus zusammengesetzten Steinrohren in die einzelnen Stadtteile. Dass heute in Amathous kaum noch etwas zu sehen ist, liegt am Bau des Suezkanals, für den man alle großen Steine der antiken Stadt nach Ägypten verschiffte.
