Sos del Rey Catolico Spain, Sos del Rey Catolico owes its fame to the fact that King Ferdinand the Catholic was born here. By marrying Isabella of Castile he created the Kingdom of Spain. It was the age of exploration: In 1488 Bartholomew Diaz circumnavigated the southern tip of Africa, in 1492 Christopher Columbus reached America, in 1498 Vasco Gama found the seaway to India and in 1500 Pedro Cabral discovered Brazil.
